Ribbon Writer

Ribbons are awarded at the dual meets for the Summer Short Course team. The host team is responsible for providing the ribbons. Each team is responsible for providing a ribbon writer. Typically, the ribbon writer prepares the ribbons for the swimmers on their own team.

At the meet:

  • The ribbon writer sits at the scoring table during the meet.
  • Before the meet, get the ribbons and the labels that will be used to record the swimmer’s names and times. The labels are prepared ahead of time by the team coordinator.

  • After an event is scored, the scorer will pass the time cards to the ribbon writer.

  • Each ribbon writer does the ribbons for the swimmers from their own team.

  • Ribbons are awarded to  1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for individual events and relays

  • Put the label on the ribbon below the swimmer's name. Write the swimmer's name and time on the ribbon.

  • If a swimmer is disqualified (DQ'd), even if the place judge has them as 1st, 2nd, or 3rd, they do not get a placement ribbon.  The ribbon would go to the next swimmer finishing the race.

  • All 8 & Under swimmers receive a participation ribbon for each event they swim if they do not place 1st, 2nd, or 3rd.  Even if they are disqualified.

At the end of the meet, the visiting team ribbon writer should take their ribbons with them. The ribbon writer for Hillsborough should put the ribbons in the folders.
